Getting to Mission

September 23, 2012

Mission is located 14 km (9 miles) north of Abbotsford on Hwy 11 and 27 km (17 miles) east of Maple Ridge via the Lougheed Highway (Hwy 7), about an hour’s drive 70 km (44 miles) east of Vancouver. With just over 35,000 residents, Mission is situated on a hillside above the Fraser River, the area is famed for its fishing, as mighty sturgeon and salmon abound in these waters.

Coastal mountains, sprawling farmland, and the imposing Fraser River give Mission instant visual appeal. Yet beyond the surface, this rural Fraser Valley community also boasts a thriving cultural scene and numerous recreational activities.

As one of the Fraser Valley’s most active communities, Mission burgeons with outdoors things to do and experience: fishing, drag racing, hiking, swimming, and parks. As well, the spacious, greenery-laden district offers relaxing activities that please the palate and the soul: circle routes that feature local organic produce and talented artists, brewpubs and dining, and cultural festivals.

Originally incorporated in 1892, Mission also has several historic and heritage sites, showcasing everything from traditional First Nations culture to the secrets of hydroelectric power.
