The Route

September 23, 2012

The 2012 Mission Gran Fondo features two distances – the Granfondo is 120Km and the mediofondo is 70Km.

The course maps for the for the 2012 Granfondo and Mediofondo routes are being finalized.

The event start and finishes on Stave Lake road between seventh avenue and eleventh avenue. Both rides feature the same initial route leaving Mission.

Cyclists climb up the hill to Dewdney Trunk Road just about Mission riding west down the hill to Keystone Avenue. Halfway down Keystone riders turn left on Wolfe Street and continue along this route as Wolfe becomes Manzer street towards Lougheed Highway.

At Donatelli avenue the two different courses split. The Granfondo riders will turn right at Donatelli and head out onto Lougheeed Highway west towards Maple Ridge to Spillsbury Avenue where riders turn right and begin the second climb of the day and the rest of the course awaits.

The mediofondo group turns left at Donatelli avenue over to Gaglardia street and continue back towards Mission on Silverdale avenue and continue on their route.

The following sections of the course are slated to be closed to vehicle traffic on the day of the event:

  • Silverdale Avenue between Nelson street and Wren street. This 800m section is a winding climb up to Wren and will be timed.
  • Tyler Streetbetween Wren avenue and Clay street. This 1.75Km section is entirely closed and is the second timed climb of the ride.
