Rules & Conduct

September 23, 2012

Some basic rules for all cyclists on event weekend. Cyclists who fail to conduct themselves in a courteous manner to volunteers, residents and race personnel will not be welcome and the event and face disqualification. For everyone else here are some guidelines for the weekend to make sure that you follow:

All riders must wear an ANSI, Snell or other approved helmet. This is mandatory.

No outside assistance. No technical support or aid of any kind can be issued from non-race personnel. Private vehicles are not allowed on the course and vehicle pacing is prohibited. Interference by private support vehicles or feeders will result in that rider’s or team’s disqualification.

Follow the instructions of RCMP, traffic control and and volunteers to avoid disqualification. Always be aware of the rules of the road, traffic lights, signs and regulations – even with the presence of event and law enforcement officials controlling traffic on the course. The courses are not always completely closed.

No garbage should be dropped at each aid station along the route. Littering will result in a disqualification. Please be courteous as we’re guests of our host communities.

Tandems or recumbent bicycle are allowed. Road and triathlon bike are acceptable as well as mountain bikes though not recommended.

Minor mechanical problems are the responsibility of each rider. Technical support will be available on course throughout the day but riders should carry tubes and cartridges with them.

Carry identification and relevant medical information on your person. When you register be sure to provide us with emergency contact information as well as list any major medical issues.

Please use the bathroom facilities located at each aid station out on the course.

Obey obvious traffic laws and ride on the right hand side of the road. When passing other cyclists call out that you’re passing on their left before passing.

Clothing – be prepared in case of weather changes on event day and consider carrying whatever you might need should the weather change.

Ride predictably by scanning the road, anticipating hazards and clearly communicating your intentions to other cyclists and motor vehicles around you.

Be courteous and respectful to residents, volunteers, traffic control personnel, event staff and organizers. Rude and or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. Please respect the people making this event possible for you.

Be prepared to address minor mechanical issues. Suggested equipment includes at least one spare tube/tire, patch kit and pump or CO2 cartridge(s).

Timing chip and bib placement must be done as directed in your athlete kit at package pick up.
